A Float Valve is a valve that is used to prevent backflow during a drilling operation in an oil field. Backflow is a fantastic mechanism that regulates the flow of fuel. The more general usage of float valves can be seen in the water tanks. The filling of water tanks is often checked by a hollow ball that floats in the water.

oat valves play an important role in the oil and gas industry as they prevent backflow of mud into drill pipes. These are basically check valves which are installed in the drill stem pipes which allow the mud to be pumped down and prevent the backflow of mud. The oil and gas industry makes use of two different types of float valves:

Flapper type float valves

Plunger type float valves

Flapper type float valves are spring loaded valves which remains in closed position and thus provides an internal well control barrier inside the coiled tubing bottom hole assembly. But when this type of valve is opened completely, it provides a large internal passage and full flow. They are designed for highly abrasive fluids.

Plunger type float valves offers positive and instant shut off characteristics which makes them more efficient and durable than flapper type float valves.
