A flat faced flange is a flange that is machined flat and does not have a ridge like a raised face or ring type joint flange. The flat surface allows for the gasket to have full contact with the entire mating surface.

The Flat Face flange has a gasket surface in the same plane as the bolting circleface. Applications using flat face flanges are frequently those in which the matingflange or flanged fitting is made from a casting. Flat face flanges are never to be bolted to a raised face flange.
